ILLUSTRATIVE

A 36-day typographic exploration of the shapes and forms that are used to structure letters of the English alphabet and Roman numerals. Developing the designs for all 36 icons took ten rounds of sketching that played with the anatomy of letters. My goal for this project was to create a full array of unique characters that all have personalities of their own.

There were many sources of inspiration when it came to these letters. Specifically exaggerated facial expressions and different display fonts I searched for in online design spaces. The letters that are reminiscent of facial expressions bring a level of playfulness and whimsy as it uses the form of the letter to create something creature-like. Every character is stylized in a variety of ways, having many parts to them and a story to be told.
